We are proud to announce that Horticulture For Healing received a Grant from See Beautiful. See Beautiful awarded us in the amount of $1,000.00 to fund the new adapted “At A Distance: Horticulture For Healing” project and the new At A Distance: Women Empowerment Curriculum
See Beautiful™ is a philanthropic company with a mission to provide inspiring, ethically-sourced products to create more beautiful in the world.
See Beautiful and members of the Horticulture For Healing community recognize that through education, empowerment, and strategic giving, we can create more beautiful in the world.
Although Horticulture For Healing’s initial project and mission has not changed, my board and I have been brainstorming on ways to pivot the initial project idea, since not being able to physically be at the facility. Therefore, I have decided that for the time being I will continue to move forward and empower women in recovery to find their inner beauty, value, and power through connecting to nature, at a distance, adapting to the uncertainty during this global pandemic. I am thrilled to announce we have come up with a project adaptation called “At A Distance: Horticulture For Healing”.
The See Beautiful grant award will be very helpful for this re-implementation of Horticulture For Healings mission during COVID19 . I am beyond grateful and thrilled that my organization is now a part of the See Beautiful community, as well as the exposure and support that we receive from being a part of See Beautiful. This is an achievement for myself and my organization. Being forced to come up with a new way to engage and implement our mission due to a global pandemic, has resulted in a plan that will impact more women than initially planned. Because of See Beautiful’s grant opportunity I was able to walk through my fear and self doubt by learning that it was possible for me to apply, then getting a positive, productive response back from their empowering community this early in my social justice and non profit work is beyond what I had imagined. I am proud to acknowledge See Beautiful as a major supportive partner in Horticulture For Healing’s success.
With the See Beautiful awarded grant, Horticulture For Healing will accomplish our first At A Distance project. Since many treatment facilities and transition houses are not holding in-person meetings or allowing recovery meetings in, at this time, reaching women who are actively residing at in-patient long term addiction treatment residencies is needed now more than ever. Horticulture For Healing will connect women to nature even though we cannot build gardens at this time. A major part of this initial project adaptation is to hold REGULAR online workshops available 2-3 hours a week to talk to women in the facility about recovery and why taking care of plants is important in early recovery.
See Beautiful has given over $200,000 through its Grant program and strategic giving Initiatives. Do you know an organization who would benefit from a SeeBeautiful Grant? Grants are awarded twice a year, in January and June. Please pass along this announcement post, See Beautiful’s website and Horticulture For Healing’s success. Thank you!
